I've learned a very important lesson this summer. Last week I bought a tray of chicken pieces which I put in the fridge, hoping to use it the next day. Three days later, I smelled an odour in the fridge and wondered if the chicken spoiled already. I took it out and sure enough, it was going "off".
I figured it was best to put it in the garbage inside the garage, rather than to leave it in the trash bin inside. Well!!! It might of been two days later, I went to put garbage in the bin in the garage and noticed 'rice' all on the outside of the bin. I'm thinking who didn't take the time to put the stale rice properly into the bin!?!? It wasn't rice, it was maggots!!
OMG!!! I was so entirely grossed out, I literally ran out the garage because I have a queasy stomach! There were so many maggots! I had asked my daughter's boyfriend to take the bin out the garage and put it by the curb, the maggots were falling like water pouring out a barrel. That's how many maggots there were! No exaggeration!
The chicken was rotting in the hot garage inside the heated bin and somehow maggots formed. I always thought flies had to lay eggs on the meat, the eggs hatch maggots, maggots feed on the meat and eventually create more flies! Here's the thing! I didn't open the package of meat, it was still sealed with the plastic wrap when I tossed it. How in the hell did flies get to it??!?! Or am I wrong?!?! Did the rotting meat create its own maggots??!?! EEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
Makes me want to become vegan! NOT even vegetarian but vegan!!
Now there are flies all around the house (mostly outside)...one or two sneak in when the door is open but I'm like a fiend with my swatter...and I've got quick reflexes, still!! LOL They don't stand a chance. I hate flies!! Hate is a strong word and I mean every single letter...h.a.t.e flies!
Seriously, seriously, considering going meatless!!

The Backyardigans!!
Just love this show on Treehouse TV. I swear the show is played by my brothas and sistas. The voices, music, dancing and even the names of the characters (Leroy, Uniqua?!)
HOLY TUNDERING THUNDER STORMS
I'm a pisces! Not sure if that has anything to do with rain or water or thunderstorms but I love them. I actually feel some kind of comfort when it rains or I love listening to the thunder and seeing the lightning, especially.
On most summer days or nights, when it starts to pour, I sit outside on the porch and watch it fall...the heavier the better!
I find it romanctic to be inside listening to the storm rage outside. And if I'm fast asleep in bed but awaken from all the clammer, I lay cuddled under the covers listening to it and find myself soothed. Yes, soothed...just like a baby.
Another thing, I've had a fish tank from the moment I was old enough to afford to buy and maintain it myself. Coincidence?! Maybe! Maybe the Chinese are right about astrological signs and its relation to people.
WATER!!! rain...Drizzles...drops...Downpours!!...Rain...drops...love 'em!

As Boys Grow
Where Did April Go?!?!
This month has literally flown past me. Lots of happenings and has happened!
Just found out one of my sisters will be having a civil marriage ceremony next week! WOW!!! She is getting married! I'm thrilled and excited for her as she's been through some rough times and has found ( I hope ) peace and happiness in her new hubby-to-be!! It will be a very small ceremony but they plan on having a big ol' reception/party in a year. They can't/don't want to wait to become husband and wife. And NO!! she's not pregnant! Congrats D and I wish you guys the very best of a loving, passionate, long marriage.
My eldest daughter is growing up...or I should say, has grown up, officially. She and her boyfriend went away to Cuba for an all inclusive vacation. I can't believe I have a daughter, young adult, who is acutally old enough to go away, over-night(s) without ME!! Yes!! Without me. How the time has passed! Not so long ago I was planning summer holidays, birthdays, long weekends, etc for them. Now, they go and I stay. WTH!!!
I was blessed to become the godmother for my friends son. He's the cutest, chunkiest little man ever! I stood proudly as the minister prayed for God to bless and keep him. I raffled off a pair of tickets to see a Jamaican comedy play featuring Shebada to raise funds for him at the reception. It was successful so I will use the proceeds to open an RESP, buy a savings bond or to open a savings account for him which I will contribute to. All of this to allow him the chance to have a good education when the time comes.
On a sour note...I've had some car troubles this month ( a financial nightmare ) as well, my boo had an upset tummy and puked on my iphone causing the key to malfunction and essentially my phone died. I've got a contact who claims they can fix it so that is my plan for the weekend! I didn't know I was so attached to the phone. I've been going through withdrawl symptoms. What kind you ask?!?!? Well, I swear I hear it ringing or vibrating but that's impossible as the battery is dead and its NOT charging! AAARrgghghhh!!! Fingers crossed, I'll get it fixed. Lawd knows I don't have the money right now for a new phone.
Speaking of moulla!!! Got a letter from my boss informing me of an increase and bonus!! Sweetest letter eva! Being home on maternity leave is definitely challenging but its worth E.V.E.R.Y moment!
The weather has been aMaZiNg!! I cleaned off the pation table and chairs and put them out on the porch, already!! I'll hold off another 2-3 weeks before going to the nursery for some fabulous potted flowers. And of course I can't wait to dig in the yhaaad! LOL

That's What He Said!!
I received this from a friend in an email. All single ladies should read this.
This article was sent to me by a guy...Girls, take note.See how they think? Take a good read, and comprehend. This article has some good points for females to consider. Please don't get offended read with an open mind......... This statement is from a man on Black Voices. It's painful, but true...
Bottom line - -
if I sleep with a woman that I don't know or care about, SEX is NOT going to make me care. (I stopped doing that years ago). That kind of sex is like scratching an itch. Once a man scratches, he's through. He isn't sitting around thinking about that spot that itched or how good it felt scratching it. He's moving on with his life until that spot itches again and it don't matter which hand he scratches it with, just as long as he gets rid of the itch.
Too many women PRETEND they can handle a sexual fling, but wind up getting caught up and wanting us to romance and wine and dine them and pretend we're having a 'relationship' when it's NOTHING but a booty call.
Come on, ladies, y'all know I'm telling the truth. Unfortunately, ladies, you are part of our problem. You sleep with us BEFORE you know us or what we're about. Having sex with a man does not automatically make that a 'relationship'. Many women will deny they think like this but I'm speaking from personal experience. Also, ladies know when their men are fooling around and still turn a blind eye by getting mad at the other woman. Now, what kind of sense does that make? Why should that woman make YOU (a total stranger) a priority in her life? IF HE DID NOT MARRY YOU HE IS STILL SINGLE.
The 'other woman' is not breaking up a 'happy home'. Many women marry men who were cheating BEFORE they walked down the aisle and then are SHOCKED that a fancy wedding dress or an expensive walk down the aisle didn't change who he was. Why should he change?YOU let him know it was acceptable by sticking around that long. Ladies, start living with your eyes OPEN.. Most shady men give themselves away one way or another, usually before the first 30 days.Women have to stop 'rewarding' unfaithful men by pretending it isn't happening.
All of us Black Men (BM) do not cheat. I do not cheat on my lady so don't buy the hype. I know other BM who do not but many men WILL cheat if there are NO real penalties for it. Stop jumping into bed with brothers YOU DON'T KNOW. That means fewer opportunities for men to cheat. Women have to STOP being so afraid to ask the important questions that would reveal his TRUE lifestyle.Worry LESS about what kind of job he has and what kind of car he drives and encourage him to talk about his past, particularly his past with women. OPEN those ears and listen. Does he put down his ex-women and blame them for everything? And don't be so vain. You are NOT a better woman than his last. If he dogged her out, you will probably be NEXT.
Observe him when you are with him. Do you have his home number? Work number? Have you seen where he lives? Where he works? Is he secretive? Did you ask if he's married or engaged? How does he treat other people? Listen to what he says, NOT what you want to hear. Stop INTERPRETING the meaning of what he says to fit your purposes. If he says, 'I'm not looking' for nothing right now' -- DON'T tell yourself, 'Aw, he just scared of getting hurt. I can change his mind. 'NO, YOU CAN'T. He said exactly what he meant.
BM don't have to lie when so many BW are already DEAF. If you can't answer BASIC questions about a man DON'T OPEN YOUR LEGS.I could kinda understand back in the days when sex wouldn't KILL people but now? There's no excuse and if a BW takes that huge risk of sleeping with a STRANGER then she better protect herself -- sexually AND emotionally. Show our ___ to the door if we pressure you for sex too soon. Don't be afraid to be alone. After you give our ____ some you will probably be alone anyway but now you feel like a fool. In other words, take your time and check us out. If we REALLY like you, we'll stick around.BUT if you decided to sleep with a man you hardly know, PROTECT yourself and keep your expectations to ZERO.
We do not owe you a relationship or another date just because you had sex with us. That's not how it works, baby. I have TOO many female friends who give me horror stories that could have been avoided if they'd done their homework first OR moved SLOWER before giving up the panties. I try as a BM to give them the best advice I can but that won't mean a _____ thing if BW continue to live in a dream world. You are TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE for your own sexual behaviour the same as I am. Blaming the man won't change a ____ thing. BW have to look in the mirror and take SOME of the blame for what's wrong with BM/BW relationships.
Let me end by saying.... SEX DOES NOT = A RELATIONSHIP GIVING A MAN A READY-MADE FAMILY WILL NOT MAKE HIM COMMIT IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO A MAN WILL NOT RESPECT A WOMAN WHO DOES NOT RESPECT HERSELF OR HER BODY. IF YOU TRADE SEX FOR MATERIAL THINGS YOU ARE PROSTITUTING YOURSELF. IF HE DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF HIS OTHER CHILDREN WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A BABY WITH HIM? IF YOU REWARD A DOG WHY SHOULD MEN STOP BEING DOGS? BRING MORE TO THE TABLE THAN YOUR BODY. NO! YOUR STUFF IS NOT MADE OF GOLD. IT IS ONLY AS GOOD AS I THINK IT IS. BELIEVE THAT!
BW are going to have to raise their standards if they expect BM to do it. The question is, are my beautiful BW up to the challenge? Are you willing to be strong and stop taking the easy way out?

Sun is shining, the weather is sweet...
It's absolutely FAB U LOUS outside today!! As soon as the little one wakes, I'm going for a walk to soak up some vitamin D. WOOT WOOT!!
I've been thinking the past few days how proud I am of my daughta numba two :)
She's been actively pursuing her dream of entering the vicious world of fashion designing. A few weeks ago she held her first photo shoot to be able to showcase her creativity when it comes to designing. Not being a selfish person, she decided to enlist a few of her friends to come along for the ride.
One friend makes jewellery and other accessories, one is into photography and graphic arts, two are interested in modelling and she got some volunteer models as well. The crew got themselves organised and with permission, planned the day at a local gallery/theatre. At the end of the day, they were well pleased with their results.
When I finallly saw the pics, I was so proud and happy for them. They received many compliments about the clothes, accessories and great pictures. Incredibly, my daughter received three orders for various pieces she designed. Now, I'm told she's been asked to prepare a couple of pieces for two fashions shows to come this summer. WOW!! Timing is everything.
Along the same lines of fashion, an agent saw her working at her job and approached her about modelling. She gave them her number and they've been calling, they want my baby to model! I've spoken to her about it and she has no interest. She says if they want her to design clothes then she would but couldn't care less to model. I've been trying to convince her to give it a try (after I inspect the contract) for many reasons. Firstly, since they are the ones pursuing her, then it is to her advantage because most people pay to be in her position. Secondly, it might be good for her to know what its like being on a different side of fashion, at least for a short time. Thirdly, again, they are the ones after her so she should use it to her advantage. Negotiate payment terms. She could use the money to fund her designing career, or at least start it off on a good note (a monetary one).
Whichever path she does take I will encourage her and motivate her to always thrive to do her best.

Incredibly, there was another earthquake but this one was in Chile and was even stronger than Haiti's. It measured 8.8 on the richter scale. So far, it doesn't seem there are as many fatalities as what happened in Haiti. It makes me wonder what's going on

within the earth's core. Are we destroying the earth as some Scientists say? I do my best to consume and recycle but wonder if what we are doing is enough! And to top it off, the earthquake started a tsunami. Between hurricanes, tornados, tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, volcano eruptions, landslides, avalanches, droughts, hailstorms, heatwaves, cyclonic storms and lahars we definitely cannot compete with nature. She does what she wants, when she wants.
The 2010 winter Olympics has been somewhat uneventful for me. Don't get me wrong, the athletes are performing to the best of their abilities but I haven't been as excited as most people. I've watched a few events and of course route for my fellow Canadians and if they are not in an event, I have a tendency to route for the long shot, the underdog. Go Losers Go!! I get excited for the summer Olympics and of course the most exciting event in my opinion, starting in a few months, the World Cup!! I can hardly wait!!
Well, its been a lazy wintry Sunday afternoon. I've got my niece, my daughters godson and my lil' dumplin' keeping the house alive otherwise I think I'd probably be sleeping all day. I was up early, made breaky for everyone, then a late lunch and just whipped up some dinner. The others have been in and out of sleep most of the day, only making an appearance when their nostrils get a whiff of food.
I found the keyboard a few hours ago and plugged in the adapter for my boo. I figure the sooner I get her used to tapping those keys and enjoying the sound of music, the more interested she should be when its time for her to take lessons. I'm laying a thick foundation.
Its time to put a dent in the couch so I'm going to get those kiddies into the bath and pop in a dvd until its bed time.
Later lovelies!

S'not Nice
My baby has a cold. She sneezes and has the occasional cough plus a runny nose. Last night was rough for both of us. The cold made her restless and I slept like a cat, up at her every move. I'm not certain how she caught the cold since I haven't taken her outside for almost a week. It's been frigid the past few days!
It's sad to watch her toss and turn trying to settle herself comfortably. In the past I've used an aspirator to help siphon the mucus from her nose but it hasn't worked well. I'm paranoid of shoving the darn thing too far up her nostrils and she isn't keen on me doing it. So, what's a mom to do?! I resorted to ancient methods. If you're squeamish, now's a good time to move to the next post. Ok? Good!
I've been sucking the mucus out of her nose with my mouth. Yes, my mouth!! I've got my family COMPLETELY grossed out! But it works! She breathes tons better after I do it. It's easy and you'd do it too if your little one couldn't breathe properly. Wouldn't you?!
According to one of my sisters, she "didn't love her kids enough to do it". HAHAHA She's hilarious! And coincidentally I gross her out too.
~Hmm, Methinks She Was Truly Sucking Snot ~
~Hmm, Methinks She Was Truly Sucking Snot ~
Oh well, my babes is breathing much better tonight but why am I awake at 2am you ask? I had a cup of coffee today and I think that's the culprit. I had stopped ingesting caffeine during my pregnancy and nursing months. This is the second time I've had a cup since I've finished nursing. I suppose I'll have to start drinking coffee more often to get accustomed to it again...its an adjustment thing .
I seriously have no sleep in my eyes. Thinking about pouring myself a shot of ANYTHING (except tequila...long story, another post) to knock me out.

Back to E-School
I don't know what to do. I'm half way through my maternity leave and have been considering going back to school to better myself financially. Yes, I have a decent job and the pay is good but with a new baby and another future tuition to fund, I need to increase my earnings.
I've been considering online learning since I am home and have some time (between feedings, naps, etc) to do some studying. The convenience of staying home and getting a degree is enticing but I know it demands discipline and dedication more so than going to a physical building. Am I such a person?
I can be, and will be, but will my degree be recognized as legitimate in the eye of my employer? I figure I will email my boss and ask his opinion on the matter. I might as well...right? Nothing to lose. If given the thumbs up I'll start asap.

UNKULUNKULU
There are approximately 195 African gods but I happen to like the name of this one. Unkulunkulu!! What a great name!!

SMH
It's been a few weeks since my last post. I've had so much to blog but hadn't the time. It's after 2:00 am and I can't sleep figured its the perfect time to blog. Wellllll, here I sit and haven't a thought in mind. LOL!!!!! I guess I'm actually too tired to think:) Maybe this is a sign that I'm ready for beddy bye now.
I suppose I can comment on the Christmas holidays. It was well anticipated as usual and came and went far too quickly. I had a great dinner with my family, even managed to make our mother cry. It was definite tears of joy, but tears none the less. Old years eve was quiet. Watched the celebrations on the telly, had a glass of wine, called a few people, sent and received a few texts of well wishes and off to bed. Its just not the same hype as my young adult years. I've promised on more than one occasion to have a party here to ring in the new year. I actually had one, once. It was mostly family and a couple of friends and it was great fun!
My birthday is coming up in March. I've decided I'm going to celebrate it this year. After all, I've had a stressful year (with pregnancy and delivery etc) so I think I deserve it. I'm not sure what to do. Dinner and movie is ok but I would like to do something different. A few years ago I invited some friends to The Sultan's Tent, a Moroccan restaurant. It was awesome! Plush furnishings, dim lighting, candles and lamps everywhere and the pieste de resistance? Belly dancers!! They were so sexy and talented in their craft. They came to each tent (table) and danced as well as pulled up a few people to join in the fun. Of course being it was my birthday, our waiter informed the dancers and they draped my waist with a wrap trimmed with bells and proceeded to dance seductively encouraging me to copy. I did my best considering I was timid to wine and grind in front of my colleagues. LOL!! Oh what fun!!
So this year I'm thinking about going to The Red Violin, a Brazilian themed restaurant also notorious for belly dancers. It's a pricey joint but worth every penny. You can literally eat until you pass out ( aka itis ) LOL There is a card at each table with one side red and the other green. They will keep bringing you food until you turn that card from green to red (STOP)!!! They also have a side table with seafood and salads (again, endless servings). Thank goodness they have a live band on the weekends so you can dance all that extra weight off. I've been there two or three times and think its a place everyone should experience at least once.
I'm also considering Medieval Times Dinner and Theatre. Just for the fun of it, as I've enjoyed it in the past. There's also a murder mystery dinner theatre I've never tried but it too sounds like fun.
Seems like I had more to say than I thought. But, I'm heading off to bed. I have to get up early to go with my daughter to register for some courses at G B College.
I titled this post SMH, an acronym I just googled the meaning of. I had to smh when I read what it was. Seems so obvious now. lol
Goodnight blog world!
